Packaging supplier HCP plans to develop an impressive extension to its facility in Suzhou, China.

The expansion is part of a series of investments the company is making after its purchase last year by American private equity firm TPG Capital LP.

The addition of around 120,000 square feet of manufacturing space will allow 50 injection molding machines and 10 metallization and painting lines to be housed.

Eddy Wu, president / CEO, HCP Packaging explained:

“The new expansion will not only give us additional space to expand our capacity but also, maybe more importantly, provide more flexibility for HCP to implement various lean manufacturing production which tends to be more difficult to realise in a traditional [packaging] factory.”

According to Wu, the company wants to double the size of its business in five years. HCP had $200 million in sales in 2012, up from $160 million in 2010.
